Kandiyohi County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is a Regional Center, helping residents in Big Stone, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Meeker, Renville and Swift counties properly dispose of items that contain toxic and potentially hazardous ingredients. This includes many of the household products used to clean, maintain and protect your home and car. Examples are cleaners, paints, oils, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs and batteries. When these items are no longer needed, you can bring them to the HHW Center across from the Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar at 1400 22nd Street SW
What is Hazardous?
Reading the label of household products is the best way to identify if it contains a hazardous ingredient and is marked with one of the following term:
Toxic: Poisonous or causes long-term illness
Reactive: Can explode when exposed to heat, water or shock
Flammable: Ignites or burns easily
Corrosive: Eats through materials, such as acid
Others: Warning, danger, caution, poison, keep out of reach of children, dispose of properly, use with adequate ventilation

County residents may bring their household hazardous waste to the Kandiyohi County HHW Center across from the Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar at 1400 22nd Street SW. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Disposal of Bulbs & Batteries
DISPOSAL OF BULBS & BATTERIES
Willmar Municipal Utilities and Kandiyohi Power Coop residential customers receive free disposal of florescent and HID bulbs by showing a copy of your billing statement.
For business accounts and other utilities:
Florescent Bulbs $.50 each
HID Bulbs $1.00 each
Kandiyohi County Household Hazardous Waste accepts any rechargeable batteries.
Recycle auto batteries at any business that sells auto batteries.
Dispose of Alkaline batteries in the regular trash.
Oil and Oil Filters
OIL AND OIL FILTERS
Recycle oil and oil filters at the Kandiyohi County Landfill's oil recycling area or any place in the State of MN that provides oil change services. Disposal is free of charge at any location.
Call the Household Hazardous Waste Center atfor more information on these programs. No explosives or radioactive material are accepted.

Kandiyohi County is licensed to accept hazardous waste generated from business and farming operations.

If you already have a Minnesota Waste ID, Kandiyohi County's HHW is able to collect from Minimal Generator (MG) and Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG.)
Minimal Generator is less than 100 lbs. per year.
Very Small Quantity Generator is up to 220 lbs. per month.
